English Language Challenges, Post 10

All my school life, teachers always said us “Guys, you need to learn English, in a near future you will use”. It’s for this reason that I tried to understand and to get better every day, because they have reason and today, all great technological advances or some new medicinal are written in English.  On the other hand, my English teacher at the school always made different activities to learn this language: oral presentation read books (with a test of comprehension of it) and made us read aloud to correct our pronunciation… When I joined to university, I had no complications with the first two levels of English, I felt confident, because I know about the basics knowledge of the language.

Respect about my experience learning English at university, I feel that I learnt a lot, because I find it hard to write in English and thanks to write posts in my blog, today it’s no so complicated to me express my opinion in another language,  but I feel  I need to improve even more.

On the other hand, I feel I have a good pronunciation when I speak English, but I think I need practice to listen people talking in English to understand their own pronunciation and my plan to do this is watching series with audio and subtitle in this language and I would also like to go to another country to practice my English in a real situation…

To finish this post I would like to say that from next year, English will be very important in our career, because we will have a subject about scientific investigations and will read a lot of papers in this language.  Meanwhile, I watch videos in social networks and I read news or articles about interesting topic to  get used to it.

Changes to my study programme, Post 9

I studied in another university the last year (but the same career) and with the pass of time, when I made the decision to change university I realized that the study program from it, It was very incomplete.

Personally, I like the study programme of this University, is complete and I like to study the subjects, I feel that it prepares me to be a good professional, but the workload is so demanding and exhausting…  In addition, we have the disadvantage that if we reprove a subject, in the most of case, we need to wait one year to study it again and our step through university is getting longer. It’s for this reason that I think the faculty should looking for a solution to implement the most of subjects two times in the year to avoid this problem.

On the other hand, about buildings and infrastructure I feel that it could be better… We don’t have a own casino and constantly the students we have to move to another faculties as medicine and dentistry to eat or to buy our lunch… in the same way with our library, It's very small for the amount of people. Finally, we need more green areas to spend hot days, because the faculty has a grass, but it’s forbidden to step it (funny, isn’t it?).

Finally about use of technology and teaching methods, I think that teachers use technology to explain us about the contents of the subject, they are attentives to new things too. A lot of them make important investigations in differents areas like calculus, physics and chemistry and I’m very proud of it… It’s time to change our mind and to use the technology in the best way possible.

In my opinion, Post 8

In our daily day, we have a lot of situations where the people have a similar or different opinion. But, also it’s so easy to fall in the intolerance and I think that is one of the aspects where the people need to work to be better than yesterday.

In this post I’ll share my opinion respect climate change, immigration, buying pets and the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases.

For one thing, the climate change is clear, for many years we have been warned, but only a minority of the citizens has helped with recycling, to riding a bike, not to buying cars and preferring the public transport. The Chilean government should be investing resources with these little details, because we need to think about the next generations.

On the other hand, the immigration is a recent topic. The social impact has been surprising and specifically in our country, I think that the older people don’t like the idea that in the world there is more than one race or ethnicity apart of our culture… we must put ourselves in the place of this immigrants, It’s not easy to leave your home for looking for a new opportunities.

In previous publications, I talked about my dog, we adopt it from a veterinary and with pass of time, and my opinion about buying a pet always is the same: I don’t agree it. We have a lot of animals like dogs and cats in street situation looking for a home, with hungry and cold… Simply, I feel that we need to end with this situation.

Finally with this post, I would like to say that I’m feminist. This year, feminism transformed into a big social movement where the woman have the right to decide about their body. It’s for this reason that I agree with the free abortion, because It’s not enough with 3 cases.  I hope in a near future, in our country this is a reality.  

From cartoons, animes to TV series, Post 7

Ok... to talk about my favorite TV 

Shows or series It's very difficult to me, I'm not fan of them, but I can tell you the series that I liked to much in my childhood. 

When I was 7-8 years I watched Cartoon Network so much, It was my favorite channel, and this place broadcast a series called "Ranma 1/2". It was very fun, I liked its music (opening and ending of it), the color and the animation. I never saw the last episode, because suddenly Cartoon Network repeated the same chapters and remove the serie from Its channel. 

But this year, I made the decision to watch this anime again (from YouTube) and let me tell you that I transformed in a watcher, everyday I need to watch an episode, because It’s so funny and relaxing to me, It’s my hobby, and give me good memories from my childhood when I was with my sister in our bedroom while we were playing with our toys.

I can conclude that thanks to mangas and comics, I have watched excellent cartoons, because without them, it wouldn’t have been possible enjoy a good evening with our family or friends watching Teen titans, The pink panther, Spiderman, among other (because the most of them come from here). The same feeling causes me the cartoons, on my life are very important, because make me laught and distract me about the everyday responsibilities.

On the other hand, in the summer, my cousin and I watched a serie called "The End Of F***ing  World" and let me tell you that It's one of my favorite series nowdays, because is very fast to watch (only has 8 chapters and lasts 20 minutes), contains drama (you will never know what happens in the next episode) and the protagonists have an unusual love haha. It’s for this reason that my family made the decison to hire Netflix’s services, we love watched series and movies during the weekend.

To finish this post, I can say to talk about your favorites series or TV shows it’s a nice topic to know the other people, because It's a way of knowing if we have common tastes.

Post graduate studies, Post 6

Hi everyone, today I will write about a topic very interesting to me, but so complicated too, because I think it’s too early to talk about it.

When I was a little girl, I lived in the countryside far away to some drugstore, supermarket or an hospital, so my grandmother when she felt sick, she used medicinal plants to feel better, so I didn’t know about drugs or medicines of chemical origin until 10 years ago, when I moved on to the city, but in all this time, my mom taught me everything about plants, she likes a lot and she transmitted me her love to them… I think that plants and flowers are very interesting to study and my family is the principal reason that I would like to have further studies in this specific area: BOTANY.

I would like to study in University of Concepción, I think that the south of Chile we have beautiful landscapes and diverse native flora. This university has a study’s program with subject as chemotaxonomy, physiological studies about plants and evolutionary ecology. To me, I think that it’s a great opportunity when I finished my professional degree (Pharmacist).   

On the other hand, I need money to pay the course… So, a part-time course would be ideal, in this way I could work and study peacefully.

To finish this writing, I would like in a near future, all the people have a culture about the plants and organic food, because they have a lot of properties that we could help us more than the transgenic food and chemical medicine.

My new job, Post 5

Hi everyone, I this post I will talk about my ideal job in a near future.  First of all, I would like to have a job where I can travel a lot, because I wouldn't want to be in a specific place all day every week. It’s for this reason that I imagine me in a different international congress about my career: about a new advance in the science or the medicine where we could help the people with it.

But if I think a long term I would like to have my own Drugstore with all my family working there. This idea could help me a lot, because I could be my own boss: I would control my time in order to pass time with my family and travel.

I forgot to mention that I study Chemistry and Pharmacy and I like it a lot because this profession gives the option to work in outdoor or indoor, but I know too that my early years when I start working will be inside on an office in some popular Drugstore (Salcobrand, Ahumada or Cruz Verde), so if I have the change to choose: I prefer the outdoor job.

About the salary, obviously is important because I need the money to my own drugstore and to travel a lot but I’m not a greedy person and a lot of part of this money I would use to help my family.

Finally I would like to say that I love the plants and flowers, it’s for this reason I want to take a major about botany… I think that the plants are amazing and I want to study all its curatives properties, I hope can do it.

Macro and Micro life, Post 4

Thanks to the progress of genetics and molecular Biology, the medicine today has unimaginable compounds just a few years ago. Medical research advances every day in the hope of being able to respond to many diseases through gene therapy or via new vaccines.

Today I will write about mChip: a portable device the size of a credit card that allows you to perform blood tests. In Chemistry and Pharmacy would be a great help, because this device is able to detect HIV, syphilis and another 10 infectious disease. On the other hand, it can help us to save our money, because delays only 20 minutes to detect this diseases when in a Lab delays a lot of hours or days. 

I chose to write about mChip, because I think that is very interesting and beneficial for all. It could be very helpful to identify pregnant women diagnosed with a HVI and so we could quickly offer them a treatment that would avoid transmitting the virus to their children.

This device was presented in 2011, but I know about it since the last year and already been vetted by many people in Ruanda and has been able to diagnose HIV and syphilis with a unique sensitivity and specificity. 

The advantages of this type of scientific evidence are numerous as they would allow multiple applications in developing countries. In addition to HIV and syphilis, mChip could be oriented in the near future to detection of other infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, Herpes, chlamydia... but, It’s still new to the scientific world and needs to more investigation.

About pets, love and friendship, Post 3

When I was a kid, I lived with my grandparents in the countryside; they had a lot of pets like: pigs, hens and horses before I was born, so my family transmitted the love of the animals to me.

I grew up with a lot of pets, especially dogs and cats… my grandma teach me how to food them and care them, because she said me: “The animals will always be a part of you, they are so smart and loyal if you take care them with love and responsibility”, but in that time I was 5 years and I didn’t understand much.  

When I was 10 years, my family and I moved out to the city. My mom adopted a beautiful dog named Luli, It was very shy and scared with the people, but the time passed and it transformed in a playful and fun dog, every day after the school I played with it and it was waiting for me wagging its tail to this day.

Luli is like my daughter, I take care of it and it sleeps with me every night; even it stay with me when I need to study until late.

With this experience, the words of my grandma had a meaning. The dog always be my favorite pet, its love is so big and I hope to have a lot of it when I live alone in my own house.

My best concert, Post 2

In this post I will talk about the concert that I will never forget, why? The answer is simple, because it was my first experience like that.

All starts in 2011, when I was 12 years old, I liked a pop artist, his name was Justin Bieber and I REALLY LOVED HIM. He was very famous for his hairflip and his songs to teenager public. In that year, he starts his Latin American tour (included Chile) and I felt very excited and I bought my ticket with my dad to go to his concert on October in Estadio Nacional.

The atmosphere during the event was amazing and extraordinary, all the public sang the songs with strong feelings and everyone shouted, danced and cried… I think that we enjoyed the concert, because is exciting to see your favorite artist in his first time in your country and you don’t know if he’ll come again.

My dad felt very tired after the concert, because most of the time, he cared me. It’s for reason that he told me that the next time if I would go to another concert, he won’t go with me but he can give the part of the money to the ticket.  

Finally, he comes back to Chile in 2013 and I went to his concert again in a better location lol. 

A country I would like to visit, Post 1

For me, to talk about traveling is very interesting, because I have a lot of dreams about it.  

I like to travel a lot, meet new places and have experiences. If I had the opportunity to travelled alone, I would win an incredible experience of get to know myself and I hope in a near future (maybe in three or four years) I would like to visit a countries like: Spain, France, USA, among other places, because every one of this country have a different language and a style life and I could compare it. For example, Spain has a lot of culture and fun and incredible historical monuments (like the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela); France has a good perfumes and its tourist attractive: The Eiffel Tower and USA I could find a latin people like me and personally I think has the best beach: Miami.

For these reason, if I had the chance and the money, the first thing I would do is to participate in the Primavera sound; an important festival in Spain with the music that I like, to taste a good crepe in France (I love the sweet food) and take a picture in the Eiffel tower and finally to tan in Miami Beach and to visit the Disneyland in USA. 

Finally, I would like to study in Spain, because has a good reputation about my career (Chemistry and Pharmacy), but only a year or maybe two… Because of the high cost of living and I’d miss my family.

It would be great if I could make my dreams come true about traveling around the world, whether with friends, alone or family.
